In addition to providing an important escape from our hectic day-to-day lives, watching films can help us process and learn life lessons as well as provide an emotional release that can elevate moods. Dr. Birgit Wolz, a psychotherapist and proponent of cinema therapy, points to imagery, plot, and music, among other elements, in films as being a great source for insight, inspiration, and emotional relief.

The Tables gives us a look at how two outdoor ping pong tables in the heart of New York City have played a pivotal role in creating community among an unlikely group of people from all walks of life.
In the film, we get to know individuals who have experienced isolation, addiction, violence, and even homelessness, but have all found a ‘heaven’ or sense of solace in the midst of the ping pong tables. Through their shared passion of the game, players find a common ground and a safe place where they can experience comradery, humor, and support, free of charge.
